Non-muscle myosin contains an N-terminal motor domain responsible for actin binding and ATP hydrolysis, a light chain binding domain and a long C-terminal domain responsible for cargo binding and dimerization of heavy chains.

It is involved in several cell processes including cytokinesis, cell motility, preservation of cell shape, and vesicle transport.
