Integrin beta-2 belongs to the integrin beta chain family of proteins, which are cell adhesion proteins composed of an alpha and beta chain. It associates with several different chains (e.g. alpha L chain to form the integrin lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1)), and forms receptors for different ligands (e.g. intercellular adhesion molecules (ICAMs), vascular cell adhesion protein 1 (VCAM-1)).
Integrins are involved in immunity, wound healing, haemostasis and development.
