Clathrin forms coated vesicles important for transport of proteins and lipids between intracellular compartments, endocytosis and exocytosis.  They are involved in receptor internalisation and recycling, transport of neurotransmitters required for synaptic nerve transmission, transport of nutrients and immune responses.
